Where to park for Perisher and Thredbo

Day parking, overnight parking, Bullocks Flat and snow chains, plus easier ways up the mountain.

Parking on the mountain in winter takes some planning, especially on weekends. Here’s what to expect. Rules can change, so please check NSW National Parks before you travel.

Parking for Perisher

  • Day visitors: Perisher Valley has day parking in winter, and it can be very busy on weekends. Follow the directions of resort staff.
  • Staying overnight: there’s very limited accommodation overnight parking at Perisher and Smiggin Holes. Only a handful of places have guest parking, and it can be expensive, so check with your accommodation first. National Parks says there’s no public overnight parking there in winter.
  • Bullocks Flat: day and overnight parking is free at the Skitube terminal, and the Skitube runs up to Perisher Valley. Some services restrict luggage.

Parking for Thredbo

  • Day visitors: Thredbo directs day visitors to the Friday Flat car park.
  • Staying overnight: use the designated overnight car parks, or your accommodation’s own parking if it has some. Daytime car parks close overnight for snow clearing.

Before you drive up

  • Park entry: vehicles entering the resort areas of Kosciuszko National Park need a valid park pass.
  • Snow chains: 2WD vehicles must carry chains on Kosciuszko Road from the June to the October long weekend, and everyone must fit them when signs or officers say so.
  • Charlotte Pass: the road beyond Perisher is closed in winter, so guests connect by over-snow transport from Perisher.

The easy option: leave the car below the snow line

With Park & Ride, you park for free in Jindabyne or securely in Berridale and keep your keys, and we drive you and your gear to your accommodation or as close as the road allows. Coming from further away? We also run private transfers from Canberra and Canberra Airport.

Why choose a private transfer?

We’re not the cheapest way up the mountain. The winter bus usually costs least, and for 1 to 3 people the Skitube usually costs less than a private transfer. People book Snowlink for flexibility and convenience: you leave when it suits you, your whole group travels together, and your luggage and ski gear come with you, all the way to your accommodation or as close as the road allows.
